Routine Checkups at Our Katy Dental Office
Dental Exams and Cleanings
Check-ups are important because minor problems can be caught before they become a huge problem (saves you money too!). Exams typically consist of reviewing medical questionnaires, set of X-rays, extraoral and intraoral exams which involves evaluation of teeth, gum, and soft tissues. Check-up visits are good opportunities to voice your concern about your dental health and answer any questions you may have. We will also clean your teeth to remove plaque and tartar, so you will leave the office feeling clean and refreshed!
Dental Radiographs
Radiographs, also known as X-rays, will allow us to see dental issues that is otherwise not readily visible in the jaw & mouth. For example, cavities between teeth are hard to detect without the use of x-ray (unless the cavity is exceptionally large). We do not use traditional films! Our digital X-ray machines are designed to administer as little radiation as possible while maintaining diagnostic accuracy. To put it in perspective, you would be exposed to more radiation if you were to fly round trip from Los Angeles to NYC than from a full series of dental x-rays. Compared to the natural background radiation that we all receive; dental x-rays contribute a minimal amount of radiation but make significant impact on the outcome of your treatment and dental health.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Catching oral cancer at its early stages gives the best chance of survival. At every exam and recalls, we will be checking all areas of your mouth as well as the jaw and neck.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is an important component in keeping your teeth healthy and protects against tooth decay. Fluoride varnish treatment takes minimal time and does not require any injections.
Sealants
Sealants are filling-like material that we place into the grooves and pits of teeth; this keeps food out of the grooves and lowers the chance for cavity to occur. Sealants is highly recommended for pediatric patients since their teeth are newly erupted.
Sports Mouth Guard (Laboratory Pressure-laminated Mouthguards)
For kids and adults participating in sports and physical activities, there is always a chance that teeth can get fractured or even knocked-out! Wearing a sports guard made of multilayered material customized for your mouth protects the teeth from dental trauma.
